Dior Is Releasing Skateboards - Dior Homme Skateboards
Dior Homme's artistic director, Kris Van Assche, revealed three skateboard decks after debuting the label's Spring/Summer 2018 collection in Paris on June 24. The Belgian designer took to Instagram to unveil the boards, which take on the same red, black, and white motifs used in his latest collection.
They showcase the signature Dior logo, an upside down "Latenight Paris" emblem and a hoodie print designed by artist Francois Bard. The latter was also featured in the menswear collection on the back of a sleek vest.
Dior's boards are the latest installment in fashion's obsession with skate culture, following street style stars' obsession with Thrasher hoodies (which Demna Gvasalia incorporated into Vetements' Fall 2015 collection) and Louis Vuitton's recent collaboration with Supreme. The latter also resulted in high fashion skate decks, this time in bright red and completely covered in the brands' contrasting logos.
Real-life skaters might not be happy with the trend, but streetwear fanatics are perpetually obsessed, as collections like Supreme x LV result in long lines and sold-out pieces. Buyers will have to wait and see if another major fashion house follows next. Chanel already has a surfboard—is a skateboard next?
