Katie Holmes Celebrates Her 45th Birthday in a Fabulous Sheer Black Feather-Trimmed Dress

Publish date: 2024-05-31

Happy birthday, Katie Holmes!

The Rare Objects director and star celebrated 45 years of life on Monday with a fun night out in New York City with her daughter, Suri Cruise.

For the girls’ night, Holmes left her cozy, minimalist street looks at home and brought back fabulous holiday party dressing. The star of her ensemble was a sheer black fur-lined dress. The piece featured a graphic fuzzlike print in black velvet all over, layered onto a sheer black gauzy fabric. Meanwhile, the long sleeves were adorned with black feather cuffs, giving the piece a pop of sexy, festive edge.

The Dawson’s Creek alum wore the see-through dress with only black boy shorts underneath, and paired it with icy-white staples, including a long cashmere coat—which she wore over her shoulders—and leather pointed-toe ankle boots. Holmes finished the look with a black leather crossbody bag embellished with golden studs, and small gold hoop earrings. She wore natural makeup and had her brunette hair styled straight down.

Next to the Hollywood actor, her 17-year-old daughter looked all grown up. Suri dressed in a cozy winter look composed of a warm gray mid-length coat, semi-sheer black tights, black velvet ballet flats with a tiny bow on top of each, and a big red scarf. In photos from the celebratory evening, she looks just like her estranged famous father, Tom Cruise.

Suri stays mostly out of the spotlight despite being quietly involved in her mom’s career. In 2022’s Alone Together (which Holmes starred in, wrote, and directed), Suri sang a cover of “Blue Moon” for the opening credits. She also sang for Rare Objects.

“I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people. And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space,” Holmes told Glamour earlier this year. “So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”
