Kylie Jenner Proves Candy-Apple Red Is the New Barbiecore Pink
Pink has reigned over runways, street style, and social media for the last few years—thanks in no small part to the onslaught of the Barbie marketing campaign and the public’s appetite for vibrant, joyful wardrobes. In particular, Barbiecore pink was ubiquitous, with seemingly every A-lister cashing in on the trend. But as Kylie Jenner’s latest outfit proves, a new color is about to give pink a run for its money.
The Kylie Cosmetics founder made a splashy appearance yesterday at Jacquemus’s “Les Sculptures” show at France’s Fondation Maeght art museum, where she arrived in a head-swiveling monochromatic ensemble of bright red pieces. Jenner wore a crimson bodycon minidress that featured artful draping details across the bodice, with fabric wrapping around her shoulders like a shawl and revealing a tasteful slit across her chest. She styled the statement piece with matching red accessories: a circular red leather purse and and a pair of shiny red slingback pumps.

Later, on Instagram, the mogul shared a behind-the-scenes look at yet another candy-apple red Jacquemus look. This time, Jenner wrapped up in a long belted teddy coat with a dramatically shaggy fur collar. The bottom half of the outfit consisted of opaque red tights from Calzedonia and red square-toed Mary Janes with transparent stiletto heels. To finish off the look, she carried a classic white top-handle bag in a creamy white shade.
Harper’s Bazaar diagnosed the shift in color dominance last fall during New York Fashion Week, noting that designers had put looks on their runways that displayed the whole spectrum of possibilities for red: “Regardless of the specific color, what these pieces have in common is that they all look like the best red lipstick feels. They’re still saturated and bright enough to stop traffic, but they convey power and a sense of elegance—and maybe a little bit of maturity.”
