On Sunday evening, Michelle Yeoh made history when she won the award for Best Actress at the Oscars, becoming the first Asian woman to take home the prize. It had already been a hugely successful award season for the actress, not just in terms of recognition, but also when it came to her red-carpet style.

Over the past few months, Yeoh has impressed in everything from Armani Privé to Schiaparelli and Carolina Herrera. But, when it came to deciding what to wear for the biggest night of them all, Yeoh turned to Dior and creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, who created a beautiful feathered white gown especially for her.

The dress – which was handmade in the Dior Haute Couture atelier – featured waves of feathers in ivory silk organza. Putting the gown together involved working layer by layer, meaning it took more than 200 hours to assemble, while the team also spent 450 hours on the intricate embroidery that went into the dress.

The finished design was a dainty, delicate and almost princess-like gown that floated around her as she walked, which felt perfect for the occasion.

When it came to her accessories, Yeoh chose similarly delicate pieces. The actress teamed her ethereal couture gown with some serious sparkles, opting for Moussaieff high jewellery for the night, wearing a diamond hairband with matching diamond earrings and a ring.

When Yeoh accepted her history-making prize, she marked her speech with a message of hope for anyone listening: "For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof that dreams … do come true. And ladies, don't let anyone tell you you are ever past your prime."
