Nicole Kidman delves into her own Chanel archives for Met Gala
Nicole Kidman delved into her own Chanel archives for this year's Met Gala, held in honour of the legendary Karl Lagerfeld.
The actress joined the many celebrities interpreting the theme at fashion's biggest red-carpet event last night – and while many opted to wear vintage Lagerfeld creations, Kidman's dress had a very personal touch.

She walked the steps at the famed Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a beautiful blush-pink gown, made from silk tulle, 250 pink ostrich feathers, more than 3,000 silver crystals and sequins, and a delicate sheer train.
Her breathtaking archival Chanel haute couture gown was designed by Lagerfeld himself in 2004; Kidman first wore the spectacular design in her iconic Chanel No.5 advert 19 years ago, directed by Baz Luhrmann.

The three-minute advert – in which the actress is seen trying to escape the paparazzi with her co-star Rodrigo Santoro – is one of the most expensive commercials ever made, with a budget of $33 million (around £26 million).
When it came to her beauty look, Kidman kept her make-up minimal and fresh and a dewy complexion, and her hair in loose waves, tied up in a sweet black bow (another nod to Karl). She shared beautiful behind-the-scenes imagery on Instagram of her moments before the Met Gala, simply captioning the post: "Thank you for the memories."
Kidman's ensemble was the perfect tribute to the late Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 aged 85. Many other famous faces paid homage to him through this year's theme 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty', by wearing other archival pieces. There were also a couple of nods to his famous feline companion, Choupette.
"Even though one of his facets was that he was a historicist, and he would revisit themes in his work, he was always looking to the future in his own work — he hated looking back at the past," Andrew Bolton, the Met's curator, previously explained to WWD. "It was something he had a very conflicted relationship with."

This is certainly evident in Kidman's Met Gala look, a design that looks just as beautiful today as it first did back in 2004.
