Queen Elizabeth's past homes - residences of Queen Elizabeth II
Balmoral Castle
GettySince 1853, this estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, has been owned by the British Royal Family (not the crown). It was a favourite holiday home for the Queen, who was actually in this castle when she found out about the death of Princess Diana. As we now know, it's also where the Queen died.
217 Bruton Street

6The Welsh House
GettyOn the grounds of Windsor Castle is Y Bwthyn Bach ("The Little Cottage" in Welsh). This playhouse was a gift to Princess Elizabeth and Margaret from the people of Wales in 1931.

SavillsWhen Elizabeth was a young girl, she used to stay at this country house. It belonged to her grandparents, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore – Claude, and Cecilia Bowes Lyon. It was quite convenient as it's only 22 miles from London.
8Birkhall
GettyWhen the Queen was a child, her parents would take Elizabeth and Margaret here on holiday. It's located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and also served as a summerhouse for Elizabeth and Prince Philip early on in their marriage.
9Villa Gaurdamangia
GettyEven though this townhouse in Valletta, Malta has since fallen into disrepair, it once was the home of the Queen and Philip while he was serving as a Royal Navy officer. Interestingly enough, it's also the only permanent home the Queen has lived in outside of the UK.
