Rihanna's Shearling-Lined Leather Coat Makes Me Want a Longer Winter

Publish date: 2024-06-07

To say Rihanna is a fashion chameleon would be the understatement of the century. The superstar is known for her eclectic sartorial taste, and her uncanny ability to put two opposing pieces together and somehow make them work seamlessly drives countless headlines and think pieces determined to document her limitless style. Suffice it to say, no one does it quite like RiRi.

Even in Italy, the mogul is still bringing her fashion A game. She and partner A$AP Rocky were photographed boarding a boat for a romantic ride through the Venice canals earlier this week, a getaway that presumably continued the celebration of her February 20 birthday.

The centerpiece of her look in the pics was an incredible long black leather coat lined with creamy shearling, a standout piece from Junya Watanabe’s Fall/Winter 2023 ready-to-wear collection. The coat itself blurred stylistic boundaries, at once resembling a western cowboy coat due to the line of fringe attached to the sleeves, a motorcycle jacket thanks to a lace-up detail and croc-embossed panels, and even a British military coat, with its ornate silver buttons down the center.

Rihanna, being Rihanna, paired the indefinable and edgy outerwear with a dainty and feminine base. This included a beige sweater minidress layered atop a lacy asymmetrical white miniskirt from All In Studio, as well as a white iteration of Alaïa’s famous crystal-studded ballet flats. She finished off the look with a pair of thick-rimmed tortoiseshell Gucci sunglasses and not one but two Dior bags: a small black Lady Dior bag and a vintage fur-lined saddlebag.
