Sadie Sink - new face of Armani Beauty

Publish date: 2024-06-02

Sadie Sink is riding the beauty wave and enjoying every moment of it. The 21-year-old star of Oscar nominated film The Whale and Netflix's hit series Stranger Things is speaking to Harper's Bazaar from her New York hotel suite, smiley, fresh-faced and with noticeably shorter Titian locks, a haircut driven by a role in an upcoming film. "I've been playing around with how to style it now that it's shorter. And I still don't have an answer! I’m figuring it out," she says candidly.

Sink has, however, understood what works well for her style when it comes to make-up. "I feel like my relationship with make-up has evolved to a point where I really know what I like and what works on me," she tells Bazaar, noting that simplicity is key. "I’ve learnt how a lip balm and blush can be interchangeable. I’ll do it in my routine sometimes; if I can eliminate a product or two here and there, I will.”

As the latest face of Armani Beauty, the star will grace future campaigns including one alongside the brand's longtime spokesperson, Cate Blanchett, for the new Sì Eau De Parfum Intense this autumn.

Ahead, Sink muses on her beauty icons (spoiler alert: they're all redheads), the product she relies on for a confidence boost and the power of saying 'sì'.

On her beauty philosophy…

“Less is more. It's a good approach for me because I just feel more comfortable when I look and feel more like my natural self. That’s always been my relationship with make-up and beauty.”

On being an inspiration…

“I feel a little bit more educated about beauty than I did when I was younger. So I'm curious to explore the many products that Armani has because it’s such a versatile beauty brand, and try to connect with my fan base who are a little bit younger. Hopefully, I can give them inspiration for beauty however that might be.”

On her first go-to product…

“The first product I fell in love with was probably when I discovered brow gel and I continue to be in love with it. But more recently, I’d say a good lip colour. I love something a little bit darker like a plum. Nothing too intense. Something that‘s more like a balm than a real stain or lipstick so it feels natural but tough.”

On her recent hair transformation…

“I had it cut and that was big change. Previously, I never had to worry about styling it or using products or applying any heat to it at all. It just kind of had like a natural thing going that was working.

"When I cut it, I think my hair was kind of freaking out at first and didn't know how to adjust to that weight being taken off. I was doing a shoot for a film and they were trying to achieve a look that was slicked back and straight but my hair has a natural wave to it, so they did a keratin treatment. I think its worn off though, because the curls are coming back with a vengeance.”

On the freedom of a chop…

“Having the short hair is actually much more manageable and it's less in my way all the time. It’s been very freeing. It feels very much like myself, I’m very happy.”

On iconic redheads…

“I definitely look to redheads for inspiration. Julianne Moore is one, I’ll look at her looks from the past. I’m seeing Titanic everywhere recently, old Kate Winslet photos. She’s a big beauty icon for me.”

On the power of eyeliner…

“I don't really wear eyeliner or mascara in real life. But when I go to events, they'll always put it on and it's cool, because that's the only time I really get to see myself with that extra definition. That always gives like a boost of confidence. I’m like, who, who is this? I also love the Armani Beauty Eye and Brow Maestro. ”

On saying sì…

“The haircut was a big sì. It was a little risky and I had to do it for a role but still, it was just letting go of something that was so such a defining feature of mine. Getting rid of it, or most of it, was a big was definitely a yes moment. As I get older, I definitely find myself in situations where I’m asserting myself more.”

On sustainability…

“Sustainability is an issue that I think all brands should prioritise and be concerned about when crafting new products. It really is up to these big beauty brands and to make choices that are sustainable. The steps that Armani is taking are really thoughtful and I'm excited to see how they continue to make those choices and grow further in that movement. It’s nice to see how sustainability plays such a big role in the beauty space because it should be of utmost importance right now.”
