SZA Looks Majestic in a Radiant Velvet Gown for the 2024 Grammys

Publish date: 2024-05-26

SZA has made her showstopping arrival at the 66th Grammy Awards.

The singer, who skipped the ceremony’s red carpet at Los Angeles’s Crypto.com Arena, shared a behind-the-scenes look at her ensemble on Instagram. Collaborating with stylist Alejandra LaPilusa, she wore a strapless black velvet gown (a custom-made Andrea Brocca Alta Moda creation) featuring a sculptural neckline with gold ornate embroidery. The dress also included a long gauzy train attached to the back, which matched SZA’s see-through opera gloves.

She has led tonight’s show as the most-nominated artist, with a total of nine nominations under her belt, in the categories of Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, Best Traditional R&B Performance, and Best Melodic Rap Performance. Earlier tonight, she already accepted the awards for Best Progressive R&B Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

This year’s nominations recognize SZA’s work on her critically acclaimed sophomore album, SOS. She talked about the record in an interview with Billboard last year.

“You know when something is really popular, the positive is loud and the negative is loud? I’ve never been quite this popular before, so the negative is also really loud, and it threw me off,” she said. “And I tried to figure out what actually resonates with me as a true assessment of my work, and what is not true and something I can’t allow myself to internalize. I know people wanted [first album Ctrl’s] “Broken Clocks,” “Love Galore,” and all that other shit again, but I departed from that by choice. Not because I couldn’t do that again; it was just because I wanted to grow. I wanted to do something completely different.”
