Taylor Swift Changed Into a Denim Minidress After Her Big VMAs Wins

Taylor Swift paid homage to another musical icon after winning nine out of the 11 awards she was nominated for at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards.

The “Cruel Summer” singer was spotted leaving New Jersey’s Prudential Center after the ceremony late Tuesday evening in a romantic denim minidress by EB Denim that looked like a modern, more 1989-esque take on Britney Spears’s 2001 AMAs look.

Spears’s iconic dress was a strapless floor-length patchwork denim gown by designers Kurt and Bart. She wore it with a silver chain belt, a crystal-embellished denim purse, and cascades of silver and diamond jewelry. (Meanwhile, the brains behind Justin Timberlake’s matching denim-on-denim suit was costume designer Steven Gerstein.)

Swift’s dress was much shorter, and included a corseted bodice with vertical striped panels in different shades of blue denim, plus a cutoff pleated miniskirt, every pleat a different blue. She wore the mini with shimmering sky-high silver platform heels, a bedazzled silver handbag, and layers of gold, silver, and diamond jewelry, including the necklaces and earrings she wore with her slinky black Versace dress during the ceremony.

Swift also put on her signature red lip to finish off the late-night look, which she wore to a VMAs after-party.

While Swift’s ceremony LBD has fans believing she’s releasing a “Taylor’s Version” of Reputation soon, her dreamy party outfit seems to be a nod to her upcoming 1989 (Taylor’s Version) release, coming in October.
