The naked wedding dress is officially a trend

Gone are the days when a bridal gown had to look demure and traditional. In fact, the rise of the nude or 'naked' dress is fast becoming a trend among brides-to-be.

Grace Loves Lace, the masterminds behind the most-pinned wedding dress in the world, reports a 30 percent rise in brides choosing dresses in shades of nude. The Australian label has launched its popular Alexandra gown with a nude underlay to meet demand - a style that gives the illusion of nudity under the cut-out lace.

"It is an easy way to add another fashion element to your gown and highlight the lace detail," Grace Loves Lace founder Meghan Ziems told us.

"Brides these days realise that dressing as a bride shouldn't be a restrictive or rule-driven process - it's actually an extension of your normal style and it's your opportunity to show your best self and your unique self," continued Ziems. "Plus, it’s that one opportunity you have to truly experiment with your style and express it through a gown you will only wear once. So a lot of that boldness and individuality comes out as they design their perfect day, they in a way get to design the dress with us too."

The naked dress has been popular on the red carpet for years now, with Rihanna, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner in particular being big fans of the style, and now the bridal market is following suit.

During Couture Fashion Week in January, French brand On Aura Tout Vu debuted a daring bridal look, featuring a heavily embellished bodice covering a completely sheer lace skirt. Wedding label Pronovias recently designed a nude bodysuit for non-traditional brides.

Grace Loves Lace's Ziems suggested that barely-there gowns were a good option for brides who feel that a nude look might be a little too much for walking down the aisle.

"Whilst the nude-tone lining can certainly attract everyone, the women wanting a fresh and more minimal look will still lean toward the ivory/white linings," Ziems told us. "The nude-tone lining is definitely for the more adventurous and untraditional woman and also a great second dress option for the reception or after party.”
