Tracee Ellis Ross Walks the Carpet in the Most Oversize Crochet Sweater

Publish date: 2024-06-06

’Tis the season for sweaters, and no one knows that better than Tracee Ellis Ross, who just made quite the statement in a cool and cozy red-carpet look.

At the New York City screening of the 2023 dramedy film American Fiction (based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett), the 51-year-old star walked the blue carpet in a crochet sweater from Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2024 ready-to-wear collection.

The black, oversize garment features large golden buttons and a triangular-shaped opening at the bottom. Ross constructed the look with the help of her stylist, Karla Welch, who paired the sweater with dark blue straight-leg jeans and a black top. The Black-ish alum further accessorized with a dazzling silver choker and large gold metal earrings from Misho.

Ross promoted the look (and offered some behind-the-scenes footage of her getting ready for the event) on her Instagram, where she wrote, “Sweata weatha… @jonathan.anderson your clothes are epic.”

In one slide, Ross got real by sharing a backstage clip that saw her cooling down with the sweater rolled up on her shoulders. “I just got a little warm,” she said to the camera. “I’m good though … It’s all good. This looks gorgeous too.”

The Los Angeles native was all dressed up to promote her new movie, American Fiction, which follows a Black professor, named Thelonious “Monk” Ellison, who is exhausted by racial tropes in media and decides to write an outlandish book to highlight these stereotypes. However, he’s shocked when his book becomes a huge success. In the film, Ross plays Monk’s sister, Lisa.

American Fiction hits theaters December 15.
