Why Beyonc Skipped the 2023 Met Gala

Publish date: 2024-05-19

Beyoncé once again skipped the Met Gala—and it's really no surprise.

The pop icon failed to show up to fashion's biggest night today, held at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art. And while she was missed, fans know it often takes a lot to get Beyoncé on a red carpet.

The "CUFF IT" singer also skipped the 2022 and 2021 Met Galas. In fact, the last Met Gala she attended was in May 2016.

In 2022, while the event was happening, she and husband Jay-Z were photographed in Miami after spending time on a private island off the coast of Florida.

In 2021, the two jetted off to Europe for a romantic holiday. Bey even shared photos of the getaway on her Instagram. In them, she and Jay-Z are seen enjoying their time on a grand yacht.

In 2019, they reportedly took a couple's vacation. In 2018, Jay-Z also surprised Beyoncé with a relaxing trip ahead of her big On The Run II tour. And in 2017, the singer was about eight months pregnant with the pair's twins, Rumi and Sir Carter, and decided to stay home.

This year, neither Bey nor Jay-Z disclosed where they were during the fashionable festivities, and have not been active on social media. Beyoncé's latest Instagram post is of her with Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing, with whom she designed a Renaissance Couture collection pegged to the release of her record-breaking Renaissance album.
