Why Selena Gomez Skipped the 2024 Grammys
The 2024 award circuit has so far invoked multiple red carpet appearances by Selena Gomez, with the Only Murders in the Building star attending both the Golden Globes and the Emmys in January alone. Unfortunately, that streak wasn’t meant to last, as Gomez is nowhere to be seen at tonight’s 66th Grammy Awards ceremony at Los Angeles’s Crypto.com Arena.
Though understandably disappointing to fans who might have been hoping for another reunion with bestie Taylor Swift, her absence really isn’t all that surprising. The actor and singer was not nominated for any Grammys this year, and she actually hasn’t attended the Grammys ceremony since 2016.
She skipped last year’s ceremony, too, after technically being nominated under Coldplay’s Album of the Year nod for Music of Spheres; she contributed to the track “Let Somebody Go.” She was also a no-show the previous year, when she earned her first-ever Grammy nomination, in the category of Best Latin Pop Album for Revelación. (The golden gramophone ultimately went to Alex Cuba for Mendó.)
Despite missing music's biggest night, Gomez still has much to celebrate as of late. Most recently, she made an appearance at Friday’s Los Angeles premiere of Lola, a movie starring, directed, and written by close pal Nicola Peltz. Prior to that, Gomez was honored at both the Globes and Emmys for her performance as Mabel Mora in Hulu’s comedy-mystery series Only Murders in the Building.
